Shopping in Sydney
Sydney offers an unsurpassed shopping experience that includes major international designer labels, Australian fashion labels and quirky, independent boutiques. Shop up a storm and find the latest fashions, accessories, shoes and jewellery in stylish shopping centres and boutiques across the city. Shopping at an outdoor market is where you’ll pick up great vintage items or something from the next hot name in fashion. If you’re looking for a dose of retail therapy, here are a few places to start.
Next door to Four Seasons Hotel Sydney is DFS Galleria – Sydney’s largest duty-free shopping mall. You’ll find a host of international labels including Coach, Dior, Estee Lauder and Gucci as well as a variety of high-end Australian souvenirs from opal jewellery to sheepskin rugs and local macadamia chocolates.
In the city centre, Westfield Sydney has set the pace for sensational shopping. As well as Zara and Gap, you’ll find four floors of fashion favourites. Stroll through the historic Queen Victoria Building and Strand Arcade, as popular for their beautifully restored heritage interiors as they are for the fabulous fashion boutiques featuring local and
international brands.
Castlereagh, Elizabeth and King streets host the world’s most famous designer brands, including Chanel and Gucci, while Australia’s two largest department stores, Myer and David Jones, have all the top brands as well as a stylist to help you choose the best outfit. You'll find Top Shop on the corner of King and George streets.
Inner Sydney’s shopping precincts have their own individual sense of style. Paddington's Oxford Street is the most well-known, with two kilometres of funky boutiques and high-street fashion. Just off Oxford Street is The Intersection on Glenmore Road where you'll find the best Australian labels. Other fashion hot-spots include Military Road in Mosman, Crown Street in Surry Hills, Queen Street in Woollahra and Darling Street in Balmain.
Love outdoor markets? For individual, hand-crafted pieces visit Glebe markets, just 10 minutes from the city. In this hippie neighbourhood with the coolest cafes, you’ll find artists, jewellery makers and vintage collectors selling their wares. Try Rozelle markets for gourmet food, and Paddington markets for pre-loved designer wear.
