Kuda Huraa's Surfing Champions Trophy
Rub shoulders with surfing legends and enjoy an exclusive ‘surf tour’ experience with our annual Surfing Champions Trophy. This boutique, invitation-only event launched in 2011 and sees six ex-world champions take to the waves in an annual battle across three divisions: single-fin, twin-fin, and three-fin thrusters. It’s a spectator’s dream – all competitors, judges and spectators stay at Kuda Huraa and enjoy epic action on and off the waves. In partnership with Tropicsurf, the weeklong event – coined ‘the world’s most luxurious surf contest’ – is hosted aboard the ultimate surf vessel, Four Seasons Explorer, and runs alongside the Domestic Champions Trophy. Group Surf & Stay packages and VIP day passes are available for the next event, August 7 to 13, 2017.

Tropicsurf Courses & Cruises
Dream program for beginners
Learn the essentials in the calm waters of Kuda Huraa’s lagoon before hitting the waves. No prior experience is required, though reasonable fitness is important. Progress from the lagoon to level two, which qualifies you to venture onto the breaks – and hopefully experience the thrill of gliding across your first wave.
Daily surfs
Two different boat trips each day take surfers to the biggest, hollowest waves in the morning, followed by smaller, easier waves in the afternoon. Your guide is also an expert coach so please ask if you’d like some tips to get yourself ripping sooner.
Ride clinic (coaching)
For those serious about taking their surfing to the next level, Tropicsurf’s 10-step program will increase knowledge, confidence and wave count. Twenty years in the making, this is a world-class improvement program. Combined with some perfect Kuda Huraa surf, you’ll never get a better opportunity to rip harder.
Perfect Wave: one-day seaplane "surfari"
Discover incredible secret spots and surfing nirvana aboard a private seaplane charter to the outer atolls. This is the ultimate ride.
Surf Cruise: Four Seasons Explorer
A seven or ten day Tropicsurf "surfari" aboard luxurious liveaboard Four Seasons Explorer is the fantasy surfing trip of a lifetime. Departing from Kuda Huraa and visiting rarely surfed breaks in the outer atolls, each tour – shared or privately chartered – is accompanied by two Tropicsurf guides, allowing group members to split across different breaks in keeping with their individual abilities.
Surf Cruises are available on select dates from June 19 to July 16, 2017. Booking through Tropicsurf: info@tropicsurf.net or +61 7 5455 4129.

Top Surf Spots
Four Seasons Resort Maldives is located only a few minutes' boat ride from some of the best surf breaks, described below.
Sultans (Thamburudhoo Right) – Located on an uninhabited island on the eastern reef of North Malé Atoll, this is one of the most consistent waves of Malé Atoll, and never closes out, even on the biggest swells. The takeoff is a steep outside peak called Phantoms, which slingshots into a very long, walled, super-fast section called the Pinnacles. All three sections can be thrilling tubes. Rides can be up to 91–137 metres (298–449 feet).
Honky’s (Thamburudhoo Left) – Adjacent to Sultans on the eastern reef of the North Malé Atoll, this break starts small and increases in size and intensity as it wraps 90 degrees around the island. A 1.8-metre (6-foot) wave on the takeoff ends up at least 2.4 metres (8 feet) on the end section, called Fred’s Ledge. There are long rides and tubes through all sections – best on low tides unless the swell is huge. The best months for this wave are February, March and April (it is affected by strong currents in the southwest monsoon from May to October).
Chickens – Named after a poultry farm on the island, Chickens is located at Villingilimathi Huraa (Kuda Villingili), another uninhabited island on the eastern reef of North Malé Atoll. When conditions are perfect, it is a pleasant thin, peeling, racing lip.
Daily boat rides to surf breaks are available for the competent surfer. Your experience can also be recorded on video for posterity.
