Romantic Getaway Itinerary

Explore the city and its history with a day of sightseeing, plan a day trip to Cascais and Sintra or simply enjoy a stroll in historic Belém. Ideally located on top of one of Lisbon’s seven hills, the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon offers breathtaking views.

The following is a sample couple’s romantic getaway itinerary. Please call or visit the Concierge to help personalise your visit to Lisbon.

Arrival

Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon is just a 15-minute drive from Portela de Sacavem International Airport.

Day 1 – Discovering Lisbon

Visit the sites, do a little shopping, and get into the city’s vibe via one of Lisbon's famous yellow trams.

Day

  • Catch the famed “28” tram for the most picturesque route through Lisbon’s narrow cobblestone streets – a great way to visit many of Lisbon's historical sites at your own pace.
  • Hop off at Praça de Camões in the Chiado, a shopping district full of cafés where you can find the quintessential Portuguese breakfast.
  • Stop for a nice refreshing drink at Quiosque Refresco.
  • Embark on a little shopping trip to Largo do Chiado and visit boutiques like Vista Alegre, Vida Portuguesa and our favourite, Luvaria Ulisses, which sells hand-made gloves.
  • You can hop back on and off the tram as your surroundings pique your interest.
  • Detour up to São Roque church and stop at the Miradouro São Pedro de Alcantara to enjoy the view from this lookout.
  • Hop back on the “28” to the quaint neighbourhood of Alfama, encompassed by the Tagus River on one side and National Parthenon on the other.
  • For lunch, explore the narrow streets filled with shops and cafés. In the summer they are colorfully decorated for popular saint parties.
  • Taxi back to the Hotel and visit our rooftop fitness centre for a pilates class or a jog around the outdoor running track.

Evening

  • Enjoy a white port or a 10-year Porto Flip on the terrace of the Ritz Bar.
  • Go out for dinner at 100 Maneiras, a restaurant in the old quarter of Bairro Alto with more than 100 Portuguese wines on offer.
  • Follow dinner with drinks and dancing at Silk, a members-only club. Our Concierge will be sure to put you on the guest list.

Day 2 – Countryside and coastline in the same day

This day trip is fit for both lovers of the green countryside and blue ocean: a chance to see the lush Sintra with all its grandeur and palaces followed by Cascais and its fishermen’s villa alongside gorgeous beaches.

Day

  • After breakfast at Varanda Restaurant, it’s time to meet with our private driver, who will whisk you off to Sintra, a UNESCO world heritage town.
  • First stop is the Queluz Palace, a masterpiece of baroque architecture.
  • Next, visit the Palace of Sintra and it’s wonderful azulejo Portuguese tiles.
  • In front of the palace, to your right is a small road where a sign reads Piriquita. Here you must try travesseiros: flaky pastries filled with melon jam, almonds and egg.
  • Go up the hill to see up close the coloured turrets of the Pena Palace – the oldest palace inspired by European Romanticism – and the astonishing Regaleira Palace.
  • Enjoy the scenic drive and take a brief detour in Porto Santa Maria to visit Cabo the Roca for a lunch overlooking the ocean.
  • Try the clams à Bulhão Pato, carabineiros (jumbo red shrimp) or fish cooked under a pure salt crust.
  • Drive to the old fishermen’s village of Cascais. Here you’ll find beaches, golf courses, bars and restaurants and fishing activities.
  • Taste the ice cream at Santini – definitely among the best in the world.

Evening

  • Dine at Travessa, a restaurant housed in an old convent that cooks up a mix of Portuguese and Belgian cuisines.
  • Experience a performance of traditional Fado, a type of melancholic song indigenous to Lisbon.
  • After dinner, go dancing at the coolest nightclub in town. Lux is right on the riverfront.

Day 3 – Explore the riverfront

Belém is known as the place from which Portuguese explorers set sail. Today, it is a cultural hub waiting for your discovery.

Day

  • Have a romantic breakfast in bed ordered through In-Room Dining.
  • Enjoy a private visit at Fronteira Palace. The splendid rooms on display are superbly decorated with furnishings and works from the 17th and 18th centuries.
  • Visit the Monument to the Discoveries, Belém’s waterfront tribute to Portugal’s golden age of nautical adventures.
  • The Belém area boasts the Jerónimos Monastery, Tower of Belém and the Cultural Centre, which houses the Berardo Collection of art.
  • Next, head to Pastéis de Belém to indulge in the custard of the same name. It's a real Portuguese delicacy but to this day, the original recipe remains a secret.
  • For a unique experience, let our Concierge book a sailing trip for you. You will sail beneath the Tagus Bridge and see the Cristo Rei statue on the other side of the river.
  • Don’t forget to order your picnic boxes from room service for an amazing Four Seasons experience during your cruise.

Evening

  • Return to the Hotel to receive a couple’s treatment at our award-winning Spa.
  • Dine at Varanda. Executive Chef Pascal Meynard uses the finest Portuguese ingredients to bring out the local flavours in his creations.
  • On your room’s terrace, make a champagne toast to the first of many visits.
