We couldn’t think of a better way to honour bridal couples choosing our beautiful Resort as the location for their special day than by creating the ultimate Royal Wedding* experience. Inspired by the pomp and pageantry that characterises traditional Malay weddings, it’s the newest addition to our choice of celebrations, offering the pinnacle of luxury and tradition.
In keeping with Malay customs, bride and groom are celebrated as King and Queen for the day… but the majestic highs don’t stop there. With bridal accommodation and venues centring on our exclusive Royal Villa, couples can expect regal treatment and traditions of the highest order, all painstakingly managed by our very own gem of a Wedding Specialist.
Day before. Retreat to The Geo Spa for our transcendental, multi-award winning couple’s spa treatment: Raja & Ratu.
Night before. The blushing bridge will enjoy a ‘mandi bunga’: a traditional bridal floral bath to enhance her natural beauty. Her bridesmaids (or all female guests if she chooses) can then join her for a ‘malam berinai’: a henna night and wonderful Malay alternative – or addition – to a hen’s party.
The vows: ‘Akad Nikah’. The traditional Malay way to exchange vows, Akad Nikah takes place in the lavish living room of the Royal Villa, in the presence of close friends and relatives, presided over by the ‘Tok Kadi’ or celebrant. An odd (not even) number of gifts are then exchanged by both sides, known as ‘hantaran’ or ‘mas kawhin’.
The reception: ‘Bersanding’. Held on the Royal Villa beach – a stunning and secluded setting at the north-end of the Resort – an entourage of‘kompang’ drums marks the arrival of the bride and groom. Throned on the dais, the couple receive their guests and are sprinkled with yellow rice and flower petals, symbols of fertility.
The party! Indulge in cocktails and banqueting on the private poolside patio of the Royal Villa – overlooking the Andaman Sea and jewel-toned sunset – before retiring to the Resort’s ultimate accommodation: a spectacular end to an awe-inspiring day.
