Beaches on Lanai

Lanai’s diverse coastline offers adventure, romance and endless opportunities for relaxation. Hulopoe Beach is the beautiful back yard of Four Seasons Resort Lanai, offering excellent snorkelling and swimming conditions. You can also sink your toes into white sand on a secluded beach accessible only by 4x4, comb the shores of Kaiolohia for sea glass, or learn to surf in the shallow, inviting waters of Lopa Beach.

    Hulopoe Beach

Idyllic Hulopoe Beach, just steps from Four Seasons Resort Lanai, offers both relaxation and adventure. Lounge amid shady palms and duck under gentle waves to explore the vibrant marine ecosystem of Hulopoe Bay, a protected reserve that has been named one of the world’s top snorkelling destinations. In winter months, you’ll spot schools of spinner dolphins and breaching humpback whales offshore. Four Seasons staff offer beach services – including complimentary use of snorkelling equipment, lounge chairs and towels – to make your visit to Hulopoe Bay worry-free.

    KAIOLOHIA BEACH (SHIPWRECK BEACH)

A 45-minute drive from the Resort, Kaiolohia (meaning “rough seas”) is home to a World War II Liberty ship that was sunk deliberately on the coral reef. Shipwreck Beach, as it’s often called, is the favourite place on the island for beachcombers seeking exotic shells, beach glass and driftwood. The beach spans 8 miles (13 kilometres) of Lanai’s northeast coast and is best reached by 4x4 excursion.

    POLIHUA BEACH

Stretching for 2 miles (3.2 kilometres), this white-sand beach is one of Lanai’s most secluded and romantic destinations. The waters off Polihua are too rough for swimming, so take a picnic and plan to walk or laze on the gorgeous shore. Located on the northern side of the island, Polihua Beach is accessible only by 4x4 excursion. Driving time from the Resort is 90 minutes.

    KAHALEPALAOA

Coconut groves and pohuehue (Hawaiian morning glory) line this beach, whose name means “House of the Whale Ivory.” On the southeast coast of Lanai, Kahalepalaoa is a prime snorkelling destination reachable by 4x4. Driving time from the Resort is 60 minutes; check road and weather conditions.

    LOPA BEACH

With soft sand and shallow waters, Lopa was once the location of four ancient Hawaiian fishponds. Driving time to the beach is 2 hours, so plan for a full day of sand and surf.
